Game Recap:

Sun Devil Stadium - Brian Mitchell made a pair of big plays to stake the Redskins to a 17-0 lead and the Redskins held off the Cardinals in Jeff Hostetler’s debut as the Redskins starting quarterback.

In the first quarter, Mitchell fielded a 57-yard punt by Jeff Feagles at the Washington 37, started to his right and then cut back to the middle. He faked out a would-be tackler at about the 30 and completed a 67-yard touchdown run untouched with just less than five minutes left in the period. Then, in the second quarter, Mitchell made the key play in a 91-yard touchdown drive. He took a short pass from Hostetler and turned it into a 69-yard gain to the Arizona 29. Soon after that, Hostetler threw to Larry Bowie for three yards and a touchdown to make the score 14-0. The Redskins rolled from there.
