RFK Stadium - After losing four last-minute decisions in the previous five weeks, the Redskins finally won a close one. Darrell Green returned an interception of Scott Mitchell’s pass seven yards for a touchdown to give Washington an overtime win.
“I was able to jump in there and make what most people think is the greatest play in the world,” said Green.
Truth be told, Green and the rest of the members of the Washington secondary needed something to serve as redemption for one of their poorest performances of the year. Mitchell had picked them apart for 350 yards on 30 of 50 passing prior to throwing that final, fatal interception.<
p>Notes: Redskins defeat Lions at home for 18th straight time, dating back to
1939 season. Redskins Henry Ellard is 6th player with 700 career receptions.
