| Game Recap: |
|
Riverfront Stadium - Gerald Riggs’ third TD run came with just over two minutes remaining to save the Redskins from falling to the winless Bengals.
Riggs was usually called upon only in short-yardage situations, but with Ernest Byner hurting, Riggs went into the game on first and 10 with 5:17 left to play and the score tied at 27. On second and three at the Bengal 29, Riggs broke to the outside for 20 yards. Three carries later, he toted the rock into the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown. The Bengals last-gasp effort ended when Boomer Esiason’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete thanks largely to linebacker Andre Collins’ crunching hit on the intended receiver.
