Sun Devil Stadium - Rookie cornerback A. J. Johnson intercepted two pass, returning one of them for a game-breaking touchdown, as the Redskins beat the Cardinals.
The Redskins broke a 14-all halftime tie with a one-yard Gerald Riggs touchdown run in the third quarter. Phoenix responded by moving smartly to the Washington 45, but Tupa went to Green once too often. Johnson anticipated the out pattern that Green ran, stepped in front of the pass and caught it with nothing but green grass in front of him. Fifty-nine yards later, the Redskins had a two-touchdown lead. The Cards’ last real threat expired late in the third quarter when Wayne Davis intercepted Tupa’s pass in the end zone.
