Giants Stadium - Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The Giants rallied in the fourth quarter to edge the Redsk--oh, you have heard it before. Well, here goes anyway as this one had its own unique set of frustrations for Washington.
It was 6-3 when Washington took over at its own 18 late in the third.
Suddenly, an offense came to life and it was the Redskins’. In driving the team 82 yards for a touchdown, Mark Rypien never faced a third down and beat a first-down blitz to throw the go-ahead touchdown pass with just over a minute left in the third.
Actually, most of the credit for the TD has to go to the receiver, Ricky Sanders. It appeared that Rypien had overthrown the pass but Sanders was having none of that, laying out to make a beautiful, diving catch. Lohmiller’s extra point had the Redskins up 10-6 entering the final period.
Of course, the Giants offense also was revived. The tallied two fourth-quarter TD’s to put the Skins away.
