Riverfront Stadium - Chip Lohmiller missed a 29-yard field goal attempt with 11 seconds remaining, opening the door for the Bengals to steal the win with a 20-yard Jim Breech field goal 7:01 into overtime.
It never should have been that close. The Redskins controlled the game with running back Jamie Morris grinding out 152 yards rushing on an NFL-record 45 carries. Morris’ runs helped give Washington a time of possession edge of nearly 43 minutes to just over 24 for the Bengals. Despite this, they couldn’t hold leads of 10-0 in the second quarter or 17-10 midway though the final period and finished with a losing record for the first time under Joe Gibbs.
