RFK Stadium - “It’s the same old story,” said John Riggins after this one. Nobody chimed in to disagree as turnovers, penalties and various other misfortunes again combined to do in the Redskins. The Redskins generated 300 yards of offense but failed to score.
A Joe Theismann pass bounced out of Riggins’ arms midway through the second quarter and into the grasp of linebacker Rusty Chambers, who returned his interception 29 yards. That set up Miami’s first score, a 34-yard field goal by Garo Yepremian. Another three-pointer by Yepremian in the first half’s final minute gave the visitors a 6-0 margin. That would be all the Dolphins would need.
