Game Recap:

Cleveland Stadium - Mike Thomas led the attack as the Redskins overcame a sluggish start to roll over the winless Browns. The rookie running back gained 124 yards on 27 carries and scored two touchdowns.

The Redskins took the second-half kickoff and drove a 37-yard Mark Moseley field goal to expanded the lead to 9-0. Cleveland answered, scoring its first touchdown in nine quarters when Brian Sipe hit tight end Oscar Roan for a 15-yard touchdown pass to make it 9-7. The Redskins began to sweat when Cleveland forced a punt, but the Browns’ Pete Athas fumbled and Washington recovered at its own 47. That led to a 12-yard scoring pass from Kilmer to Larry Brown on the second play of the fourth quarter. The Redskins got some breathing room at 16-7 and wrapped it up with a nine-minute, 16-play touchdown drive capped by a one-yard Thomas TD run.
