Cleveland Municipal Stadium - The usual suspects—key fumbles, dropped passes, critical interceptions, and missed field goals—were the main culprits in Washington’s sluggish loss to the Browns.
An interception at the Brown 23 by Cleveland’s Ernie Kellerman killed a Redskin scoring threat and launched a touchdown march for the Browns. They moved to the Washington five, where Frank Ryan’s pass intended for a wide-open Gary Collins hit the goal post. On the next play Ryan avoided the goal line obstacle, calling for fullback Ernie Green to run a flag pattern and the quarterback hit him for a 7-0 lead for the home team. That was all that Cleveland would need.
