Griffith Stadium - You might have known that it was going to be Bobby Mitchell's day when he ran 90 yards for a touchdown less than three minutes into the game. It was only the beginning for the Cleveland star as he rushed for 232 yards and three touchdowns on just 14 carries. Mitchell's fireworks upstaged a great game by his Washington counterpart, Johnny Olszewski. The Redskins back gained a team-record 190 yards on the ground in a losing cause.
Olszewski bested the team record of 168 yards set by Frank Atkins in 1945 and tied by Don Bosseler just two weeks prior to this game. Olszewski had the record by intermission with 177 yards at halftime, but the Browns clamped down on him in the second half.
