| Game Recap: |
|
NFC Divisional Playoff Game Candlestick Park - Joe Montana passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns to lead the 49ers past the Redskins, eliminating Washington from the playoffs.
The Niners took a 21-10 halftime lead. You could say that the third quarter belonged to the Redskins, but it didn’t really do them any good. Three times they drove into San Francisco territory and totaled zero points. Twice Rypien threw interceptions and once Washington lost the ball on downs. With a minute to play in the game, Rypien was hit while throwing and the ball fluttered into the arms of nose tackle Michael Carter, who lumbered 61 yards for the final touchdown.
